I saw this superb revival on Broadway. A wonderful cast and production (and an excellent cast album) of my favorite Bernstein musical! 🙂

Fabulous in every way. Including the tourists and other New Yorkers is really terrific. Everyone involved is pure magic. This is loaded with energy. Incredible orchestration, and incredible performances from these three great stars. I wish I had seen this show at the time. Most importantly, this appears free of any Disney style sickly politically correct manipulation, or any current 'you too' movement poison. It's not pandering to any special interest groups. There would surely be many things for politically silly activist nonsense people to find offensive in this musical, such as 3 male sailors on leave in NYC in the 2nd WW, (instead of 3 trans 'they' on leave from protesting in major liberal urban centers in 2023, and dancing about Hazelton Lanes in Toronto with their adopted non-binary kids ) Would this be istist in and of itself, maybe even phobicist to say such a thing? . I'm fully supportive of the support of non-istist phobe support for trans. I am trans myself, and this is very painful. We must all learn to love each other and accept cancel culture as a positive wave in fascism to destroy people who agree with us. So many people who are supportive of trans have been a bit slow to voice their support, so they should be outed themselves and cancelled in as loving a way as possible . Not losing their jobs and friends and families and reputations, but instead just being lashed at the Folsom Street Festival in San Francisco. "Oh dear Bill Gordon, you just don't understand!" She is Amazing!

This was a terrific revival of a great musical. In the mid-1940s, It served as the Broadway debut of composer Leonard Bernstein and book/lyric writers (and performers) Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and this immensely talented cast, director and choreographer really (re-)captured the youthful vitality, high spirits and zany fun of the show... which remains my absolute favorite Bernstein score. Perhaps its unusual mix of broad revue-sketch comedy, sophisticated dance music and occasional genuine melancholy - "Lonely Town" and "Some Other Time" in particular - means that it will never have the broad appeal of other Broadway classics. But for those of us who love it, this revival was a precious gift. Thank you, all!!! 🙂
